Pinball games are very popular on the iPhone/iPod Touch. We've already seen an iPod version of the classic Amiga game Pinball Dreams, Freeballin' is doing very well in the App Store at the moment and it seems like every week new pinball games are released. The latest in this line is Wild West Pinball, a game that is different from the aforementioned titles because it's more realistic, and features only one table. While the first difference has been applauded, many people have complained about the fact that there is only one table. Having played the game for several hours made me realize however that this is not such a big problem at all. After all, with only one table at your disposal, you really have the chance to perfect your skills and discover every little detail you can use to gain extra points. The fact that at the moment you can get this game for less than a euro/dollar doesn't hurt my opinion either. When you are playing a pinball game, there are a few important things to take into account. Not only does the design of the table need to be inspiring enough so that you want to spend a long time there to hone your skills, but the physics also need to be right. I've played a good few pinball titles where the ball didn't move naturally enough, which ruins the whole experience. In Wild West Pinball, ball movement is spot on. This combined with the fact that Wild West Pinball is probably the graphically most impressive iPinball game out there makes for a very pleasant experience. I know that there are several other pinball games out there that are priced the same, but with more tables, but the designers of this game have worked really hard to perfect their table. The attention to detail stands out and we can only hope that developer OOO Gameprom will come up with more tables that have the same high production values.
